Upholstery Care Tips
14th August 2014
If you’ve spent time and money getting and keeping your upholstery in great condition then you’ll be wanting to know about some of our great upholstery care tips to enable you to keep your furniture looking at its best for longer. Here are some of the best pieces of advice we have to offer:
- Never machine wash cushion covers, throws or similar surface fabrics. These should be washed gently by hand and aired naturally so as not to damage the fabric’s texture nor to discolour it.
- Make sure you give your chairs, sofas and cushions a daily plump up to ensure the cushioning does not sag.
- Always, whenever possible, ensure that your upholstery, particularly those more delicate or antique pieces, are positioned out of direct sunlight to prevent fading of their colours.
- Avoid sharp objects anywhere near your fabrics, but pay particular attention to bits of metal in your clothing.
- Always rotate your cushion covers to ensure that they wear evenly on both sides, thereby extending their lifespan
- When cleaning, always vacuum your upholstery using the attachment accessories of your vacuum to get into the smaller gaps to prevent dirt gathering
- Always clean up any spillages straight away to prevent permanent stains. If you know how your cleaning agents will respond to the fabric concerned, use those too. However, when using a new product ensure you test in a region out of sight (underneath, at the back or near a hidden corner always work well) just in case it reacts badly with the upholstery
Of course, if your upholstery has suffered damage and you would like experts to take a look at it, then contact us straight away to find out how we can provide you with our expert upholstery and reupholstery services in the North West of England.
